New Options in Anticoagulation for the Prevention of Venous Thromboembolism and Stroke

Although warfarin and vitamin K antagonists have been a mainstay of therapy for preventing VTE and stroke, the risk of bleeding is a concern. Direct thrombin inhibitors, as well as factor Xa inhibitors, are discussed as promising replacements for warfarin.
